From 1 April 2027, the NHS wants your whole carbon footprint, not just your UK operations.

For new contracts worth £5m+ a year, and new NHS frameworks, suppliers will need a published carbon reduction plan covering all relevant global Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. The consequence of missing this is not a fine. It is a lost bid. For suppliers with meaningful NHS revenue, a procurement question you cannot answer is the fastest way to lose a contract you would otherwise have won.

That cost is already showing up in bids. In the UK Carbon Data Benchmark 2026, procurement leaders valued tenders lost or delayed by carbon data gaps at £1.44m on average. Speed makes a difference: businesses that can get a credible carbon figure the same day are less likely to have had an opportunity lost or delayed (48.5% against 67.5%).

In this session we go through what the NHS is asking for, who is in scope, and what a plan needs to pass, including how to check yours with the free NHS Evergreen self-assessment. We are joined by a guest speaker (TBC) to hear what changed in their bids, and what they would have started earlier.

We will cover:

  • What changes on 1 April 2027, and which contracts it applies to
  • What has to be in a carbon reduction plan for it to pass
  • Where suppliers get stuck: usually Scope 3 and evidence, not the headline number
  • How quickly your bid team can get a credible figure, and why it affects whether you win
  • Why the same questions are arriving from your largest customers and investors
  • What to do before 1 April, and what comes next: product-level footprints from 2028

Whether you are a bid manager, a compliance lead or responsible for sustainability, you will leave knowing what your next NHS bid needs.

Statistics from the UK Carbon Data Benchmark 2026, independent research commissioned by Zevero and carried out by Censuswide with 502 senior decision-makers at UK companies with 100 or more employees, August to September 2026.
