At Zevero, our team is made up of passionate individuals working together to drive meaningful change. In this edition of our Meet the Team series, we sit down with Tony Cheung, our Lead Back End Engineer, to learn more about his background, his role at Zevero, and what makes him tick.

15 Questions with Tony Cheung

1. Can you introduce yourself and share a bit about your background?

I’ve been in the IT field for more than twenty years. My hometown is Hong Kong, and the UK is now my second home. I've previously worked in companies with more institutional values, so I’m happy to be part of a young and energetic team at Zevero.

2. What’s your role at Zevero, and what does your day-to-day look like?

I’m the Lead Back End Engineer, so you can find me constantly buzzing between catch-up meetings and deep-focus work. 🐝

3. What’s something unique about your role that people might not realise?

All things are connected—it takes a keen eye to spot what’s not working behind the scenes.

4. What’s the most exciting project you’ve worked on at Zevero so far?

So far, it’s been the business divisions project.

5. What’s a skill or strength you bring to the team that you’re proud of?

I like to call it “Old Cake Perspectives”—in other words, a mix of proven knowledge, reliability, and experience that helps the team avoid mistakes and build something meaningful over time.

6. Why did you choose to work at Zevero?

Zevero offers an opportunity to work in an emerging industry that brings significant impact—not just for me personally but also for the planet.

7. In your opinion, what’s the biggest challenge organisations face when it comes to sustainability?

Justifying the cost for the cause.

8. What’s a sustainability trend or development you’re keeping an eye on?

AI and politics 👀

9. What’s one thing you hope to achieve in your role this year?

This year, I want to offer my two cents in a way that helps my teammates grow and succeed.

10. What’s something surprising people might not know about you?

My age. (Keeping us guessing, Tony!)

11. What’s your go-to coffee or tea order?

Ethiopia hand-drip.

12. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Never jump to conclusions before you have sufficient findings.

13. What’s a hobby or passion of yours outside of work?

I’m a nerd when it comes to coding… and perhaps cooking too.

14. What’s the last book, podcast, or movie that really stuck with you?

Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama.

15. If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?

Poise under pressure.
