Zevero Partners with the Sustainable and Green Finance Institute at NUS to Launch Campus Carbon Menu Research Initiative

SINGAPORE [15 January 2026] - Zevero, a global carbon management platform, today announced a research partnership with the Sustainable and Green Finance Institute (SGFIN) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) to build Singapore’s first campus-wide carbon menu initiative. The research partnership will support NUS’s ambition to create a sustainable, low-carbon campus by measuring and displaying the carbon footprint of meals sold across 90 on-campus dining outlets.
The initiative will examine how carbon footprint information for meals can be measured, standardised, and presented, with the aim of generating insights into how carbon information may influence decision in meal selection.
Transforming Sustainable Dining at Scale
By establishing a clear and credible emissions baseline across participating dining outlets, the research project aims to provide a critical starting point for informed decision-making and long-term emissions reduction within campus food and beverage operations. Through this partnership, Zevero will deliver end-to-end measurement and analysis of menu items, accounting for:
- Ingredient-level emissions, including farming, production, and global sourcing
- Cooking methods and estimated kitchen energy use
- Packaging choices and waste treatment assumptions
The methodology aligns to ISO 14067 principles, ensuring accuracy, standardisation, and consistency across the full scope of food operations.
“Creating visibility is the first step toward meaningful change,” said Shigeo Taniuchi, Co-Founder and CEO of Zevero. “By making the climate impact of food choices transparent at the point of decision, NUS is empowering thousands of students to engage in climate action in their everyday lives. This is exactly the kind of systemic intervention that drives long-term decarbonization.”
Contributing to Broader Sustainability Research
The carbon menu initiative is a critical step in quantifying impact and identifying the most effective paths to food-related emissions reduction. The findings from the initiative are expected to inform future research outputs and discussions around food-related emissions, consumer awareness, and institutional sustainability practices.
“Food choices are one of the most immediate and visible ways individuals can participate in climate action,” said Professor Sumit Agarwal, Managing Director of SGFIN. “This initiative will create a generation of students who not only understand their footprint, but who are equipped to make informed, climate-positive decisions.”
